MY NAME IS PRINCE

No Comments 55Factory, my words, news, review, sara darling

If you need a fix of the infamous purple one, you will be spoilt for choice this winter with two very different exhibitions showcasing in London.

I was blown away by the actual size of Mr Nelson’s stage costumes which are presented in all their glory at the #MyNameIsPrince exhibition at the 02…. He managed big guitars, big hair and big heels, but boy his waist was tiny!

STRANGER THINGS IS BACK – INTERVIEW BY ME!

No Comments my words, sara darling, schon magazine

David Harbour AKA Hopper in Stranger Things is a bit of an unlikely pin up…

But I have always had strange tastes! And after interviewing the Netflix anti-hero for the AW17 print issue of Schon! magazine, I got even more giddy.

A 30 minute slot slipped into nearly an hour, and there were lots of giggles to contend with in transcribing our chat! I mean, who gets on to the subject of internet dating with a Hollywood star…?!

But I managed to condense it into a bitesize feature for the latest ish.

PRINCE LIVES ON AT THE PICTURING PRINCE EXHIBITION

No Comments my words, news, review, sara darling

THE LEGEND THAT IS PRINCE DIED ON 21ST APRIL 2016

However he will remembered forever. A recent photography book by Steve Parke is a personal insight of his time spent working with Prince, as his official photographer, friend and art director.

The release also coincides with an exhibition of these intimate images at the new Proud Gallery in central London.

Having collaborated with Prince for 13 years during the 80s and 90s, Parke has an enviable collection of rare images which are a collaboration of two creative minds, and are a sneaky peek into the man behind the purple mac.

Showing unseen shots of Prince at home in Paisley Park, the enigmatic popstrel has been snapped in his personal environment in both posed and unposed situations.

Known as a flamboyant showman, the juxtaposition of his shy and vulnerable off-duty persona shines through, alongside his overtly sexy, flamboyant and playful side. There is no doubt these images will give you goosebumps whether you were fan or not.

Showing from 9th November – 3rd December 2017

IS IT A PONY OR IS IT A BIKE?

No Comments 55Factory, fblogger, lifestyle, my words, sara darling

The Slovenians are a very cool nation! And after visiting MBFWLJ, I can see that they are very trendy too……

So it’s no wonder that they have fused two of their talents in a fashion-bike hybrid.

The humble Pony brand of bikes has been two wheels of choice or more than 65 years in Eastern Europe, and the affectionately named Rog’s bikes are the flagship of Slovenian cycling tradition, so check out my report on 55Factory to see their latest collaboration….

SUPERDRY JACKETS ARE MADE TO LAST

Alas the girls don’t get the Idris Elba touch, but I have personally fallen in love with this season’s peacoat.

SPAIN IN OCTOBER IS TRULY RATHER SPLENDID

No Comments my words, review, sara darling, travel

Two back to back trips meant I spent twelve days in sunny Spain

And now I am back in grey UK and wondering what to do with myself! I would really love to get two more countries in this year, so I can keep up my (so far so good) new years plan of visiting a different country every month- nothing in the pipeline at the moment, but watch this space! As I do a press trip pixie travel dance….

My first stop was the stunning Fountainhead Retreat in the Andalusian mountains. Perfectly peaceful, completely tranquil, and the most amazing personal touches for a chilled out stay. Review coming soon for Flush magazine.

Conveniently, my next stop was a fitness bootcamp – also in Spain, but a couple of hours away along the coast, in a converted monastery. Feeling refreshed, and zenned out, I wasn’t quite sure what I was letting myself in for. No caffeine, alcohol, dairy, sugar or wheat?? No problem right- especially if someone else is cooking for me. But coupled with the 7am- 6pm classes it was pretty hardcore, and I must admit I didn’t manage all the sessions. But team games with my other bootcampers were fun- we even did a triathlon! It’s a good test for fitness, but I left wanting more. Just got to keep up with the gym here now.

Hitting the mean streets of Malaga before I went home meant  I could celebrate with a long overdue cava, and get some culture at the Picasso museum. So all in all not a bad way to spend two weeks.

Back to reality with a bang now though…..

MERCEDES-BENZ FASHION WEEK LJUBLJANA

No Comments fashion, my words, review, sara darling, schon magazine, Stylist

Solvenia’s Fashion Week is worth a look

I was invited to Mercedes-Benz Fashion Week Ljubljana, to cover the shows for Schon! Magazine which was a first for me, and I was quite excited to visit Slovenia. With up to 3000 guests at the super sleek event which consisted of shows in sets of three, the designers hustled from Slovenia and the surrounding countries. But with FROW seating for the duration, I soaked up every second.

The production, talent and after parties (oh and meeting Simon from The Shapeshifters) definitely made it a fashion week to remember! Just please excuse my pronunciation of the designer’s names…

SARA DARLING: BARBOUR INTERNATIONAL GIRL

Comments Off on SARA DARLING: BARBOUR INTERNATIONAL GIRL fashion, lifestyle, my words, sara darling, SPINDLE

Also spotted in Spindle magazine

When I was asked if I was free spirited, I nearly chocked on my prosecco.. Just a tad was my incredulous, and vaguely condescending reply!

And thus began my relationship with Barbour International. Not only did they want to come and film little ole me, wearing some of the latest and tres cool collection from the brand, I had to talk about me, and write about me too! Sounds like heaven….? To be honest I was a teeny bit nervous as their film crew came to set up at the 55Factory offices and they were all faffing over me and where to put the mic!

I’m not much one for faffing,  but experts they were and we were well away. Quite conscious of talking too much, I was assured that anything could be edited, so I sat back and quite happily chatted about me 🙂

FROM NEW YORK TO SLOVENIA TO SPAIN

Comments Off on FROM NEW YORK TO SLOVENIA TO SPAIN fashion, lifestyle, my words, news, sara darling, travel

THE LAST TWO MONTHS HAVE INVOLVED A LOT OF TRAVELLING

But I love travelling so I can’t complain! I have been lucky enough to jet off to New York with Icelandair and take part in their immersive theatrical experience for the duration of the flight, which quite literally made time fly by!

I even caught some shows at NYFW which demonstrated the differences between here and and there! Even more differences can be seen in the MBFW Ljubljana, the capital of Slovenia, which hosted a very interesting three days of events. Full report coming soon for Schon! Magazine.

I am currently writing this from a stunning sun-terrace, high up in the Andalusian mountains, where I am on a retreat at the Fountainhead resort. I don’t even get wifi in my room, so all I can hear is the faint sound of cowbells, birds, and the buzz of insects. Quite honestly I am in paradise!

To finish of my Spanish adventure, I am heading to the other side of Malaga, for an equally challenging experience. As I undertake a seven day bootcamp! Watch this space!!!!

Meanwhile when I did have a chance to catch up with my fashion family in London, I worked with pop princess and Israel’s X Factor winner for her tour with Little Mix. I popped by the K-Way store launch in Covent Garden, and was pleasantly surprised at how cool the Parisian brand has become. Founded in 1965, it’s heritage is in pac-a-macs, but after lusting after the Marketing Director’s frilly sleeved number for SS18, I can safely eat my words!

September also saw the long awaited Leading Cultural Destinations Awards Ceremony, and brought together all the cool cats from around the world. I am not sure if I could be on the judging panel- I think they are all winners to me!

From then, I skipped off to Wales, to style the Welsh National Football team again. One of my clients is JD Sports, and because I’m Welsh, I get to dress the boys every time a new kit is out! Tough life!!

Until next time.
